Books

I am in the process of “translating” my Japanese website, but it will take some time. Please bear with me.

(I removed the Japanese entries from this page)

English:

Welcome. I dedicated this page to my printed book and ebooks. All ebooks listed below ARE available for sale on Amazon and via Smashwords.com and also via almost all sites worldwide selling ebooks. Unfortunately, these books are “not selling”. That is why I choose to make them also available for free. Yet, I would be eternally grateful, if you could spare a tiny “donation” AFTER reading AND in case you liked them. The ebooks are commercially available for about 5 USD. So, a “donation” of let’s say 2-3 USD would be great. The send small amounts like that, I think PayPal should be suitable: my PayPal account is: thomas@orange.ocn.ne.jp

For people without a PayPal account this can be difficult. And fees applying for transfers from banks or the post office are definitely too high. I am still trying to find out something better.

(* The links (table of contents etc.) in MY PDF file do not seem work (I don’t know how to accomplish that), but they work in the commercially available versions.)
Thank you!

Willkommen.

Vielen Dank!

Most of what you find here is copied from the dedicated page of my Japanese site. Consider it a short introduction.

* The other day the German National Library wrote to the publisher, requesting a copy of my book, so that it may be included in their catalog.

That catalog includes ALL publications since 1913 in German / about German(y) / by German authors, even if they are written in a foreign language.

Deutsch:

English:
This is my second book. Many patients of mine have asked me over the years, why a young German felt compelled to go to Japan to practice Japanese archery (Kyudo) and then ended up working as an acupuncturist. Personally I always felt, that this could impossibly be interesting for anybody but myself and thus hesitated to comply with the request of putting the story “into words” (not counting the short version that has been on this website for about 10 years now).
Finally, having an unfortunate amount of free time on my hands, I gave in to that request.
Strangely, it occurred to me ONLY AFTER a patient pointed that out, that I could have written this in German, but the German version (detailed below) is a “transaltion” of the Japanese original.
Important events in my youth that later led to my “trip” to Japan. Once in Japan, a foreigners experiences with Japanese archery, tee ceremony and later oriental medicine.

Deutsch:

English:
This is the “German translation”, or rather rewriting, of the Japanese original of my life story listed above. Some of the readers actually told me, this is interesting. Readers: those are not people who bought it. I gave this little book to a number of friends and people who I owe.

Deutsch:

English:
I wrote a little English ebook “essay” (with about 50 pictures) summarizing why I think Japanese acupuncture is probably better suited for many/most non-Chinese people than the so-called “authentic Chinese acupuncture”.

This is NEITHER a textbook NOR a scholarly work. Just my opinions based on very short 30 years experience. After these 30 years of experience moxibustion (first choice) or acupuncture are always MY FIRST CHOICE of treatment, when I am not well. Yet, I would NOT VOLUNTEER to get a “Chinese acupncture” session.

Maybe this little essay could provide some “glimpses of unfamiliar Japan” (title of a famous book by Lafcardio Hearn), because this kind of talk is usually not found in the common textbooks.

Deutsch:

Announcement

45 years ago I came to Japan with the obsession to learn Japanese archery (kyudo). When I packed a few things at the age of 22, sold or gave away the rest of my belongings, bought a 1-way ticket for the Siberian railway and left Germany without insurance etc., everybody in the “old country” told me I am crazy. Coming to Japan and trying to find a dojo to learn kyudo, everybody here told me the same thing.

Then I went to meet the priest Suhara Koun (with the help of an interpreter). He probably also told me I am crazy, but above that, he told me to learn Japanese first and then come back later.

THAT changed my life. I simply threw all the “plans” I had overboard – and stayed.

For a long time I considered translating a book by priest Suhara, detailing how he became a priest and got mixed up with kyudo, a sort of “mission” of “obligation” in return for this life changing event.

I have been working on it for 10 years (with several year doing nothing) on it, but now I believe, I can publish it with some major effort within this year. Just wanted to let everybody know. When I am actually done, I will put up another note.
